Traveling during pregnancy

Even pregnant women do not have to give up traveling. They must be thoroughly prepared on the way. When flying, it is possible to take into account possible health checks and an increased risk of thrombosis. On the way to the car, pregnant women must not forget the drinking regime. The expectant mothers must also be careful when selecting the destination.

Generally safest is the second trimester for travel by doctors, when the initial nausea is receding and the risk of miscarriage is significantly reduced. At the beginning of pregnancy and just before birth, traveling to pregnant women is not recommended. In fact, doctors should not travel to women with repeated spontaneous abortions and those who have frequent abdominal pain or bleed. Similar rules apply to airline companies for passenger handling. Pregnant women have to prepare for certain measures and restrictions. "If a woman has any complications in her pregnancy, she will be required to have a medical certificate, especially at an advanced stage of pregnancy. Many times, confirmation is required for women expecting the birth of more than one child, " says Marika Janoušková, spokeswoman for Václav Havel Airport.

Knowledge of transport conditions is the basis for a seamless flight

The time when airlines are willing to accept the expectant mothers on board is different. In general, the limit for their transportation is between the 32nd and 36th weeks; in the case of multiple pregnancies, the mothers are transported around the 28th week of pregnancy. "This year's statistics show that 64% of tourists travel on a plane holiday. This kind of transport may not be denied to pregnant women, but they have to prepare themselves thoroughly to find the conditions of a particular airline. If the woman is not able to prove the stage of pregnancy, the carrier is entitled to exclude her from the carriage, " explains Michal Tůma from Invia travel agency.

Traveling by plane should not pose more serious risks in the event of a seamless pregnancy. In an advanced stage of pregnancy, however, in some cases, premature childbirth is threatened by gynecologists. At the start and landing of an airplane, it is possible to break through the bag blanks and to divert amniotic fluid by changing the pressure. Particularly in longer years, pregnant women must expect an increased risk of venous thrombosis, when blood pressure in the lower limbs is due to overload. Experts therefore recommend using pull-up socks. It also pays compliance with the drinking regime and regular walks on the plane.

Route by car only with regular breaks

Also, when traveling by other means of transport, several principles must be observed. Car travel is often very inconvenient for women in advanced pregnancy. Therefore, they should have regular medical pauses for about two hours. The basic drinking regime is once again consistent. "I have been repeatedly experiencing the fact that women are less drunk when traveling so they do not have to go to the toilet very often, but this is a great mistake especially in pregnancy and at higher temperatures. A pregnant woman, on the other hand, should drink more than usual at home during normal travel. At the time of travel, it is generally suitable for pregnant women to supplement the magnesium, " recommends gynecologist Pavel Turčan. The most comfortable way to travel for pregnant women is by train.

Exotic women should rather avoid pregnant women

Although pregnancy is not excluded with travel, not all holiday destinations are, according to experts, appropriate for women. "Pregnant women should not choose destinations with an increased risk of infectious diseases such as jaundice or malaria. Traveling to exotic countries that requires special vaccinations is therefore inappropriate for them. On the contrary, holidays in traditional European resorts can be enjoyed without problems, " says Michal Tůma. Future mothers should also avoid other typical holiday activities. "The pregnant woman should not be sunny. When sunbathing, redistribution of the blood stream occurs with a decrease in blood flow through the placenta, which can result in deterioration of the fetus with oxygen and nutrients. They may also experience dizziness, and even a loss of consciousness. It is better to stay more in the shade. Also, thermal baths or saunas are not suitable for pregnancy for the same reason, " explains Turcan.
