Autumn echoes Jazzfest: Scofield, Youssef Galliano

Ageless John Scofield, muezzin Tunisian Dhafer Youssef and accordion virtuoso Richard Galliano, these are the three stars of the November series of concerts entitled Echoes of JazzFestBrno. The latter additionally perform together with Brno Philharmonic and indirectly build on last year's successful concert JazzFest Brno and the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, whose main protagonist was an Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen.

"We are pleased that we have managed to attract Brno three exceptional musicians who bring jazz elements from other musical genres. Spectators can look forward to three diverse musical evenings, "says artistic director William JazzFest Brno Spilka.

Dhafer Youssef

With the highly anticipated Youssefova board Diwan of Beauty and Odd already present on November 8 at Sono Center represents another artistic shift from previous blockbuster Birds Requiem. The album made alongside young lions of contemporary New York jazz led by Aaron Parks, Ambrose Akinmusireem and Mark Guiliani and will be released on September 16.
Dhafer Youssef was born forty-nine years ago in Teboulbě and is a descendant of a modest family from this fishing village, while another in a long series of muezzins. Mastering the art of singing and it was family honor and tradition. At a very early age grandfather he brought him to recitativům from the Koran. Dhafer gradually began to explore the potential of their voice. With a desire to explore new horizons Dhafer Youssef left his native village, he went to the capital and later to Austria. In Vienna, musically he developed and, moreover, met the right people in the field of jazz and world music. Since then, he recorded nine albums under his own name and started an international career.


Richard Galliano

Virtuoso accordion and bandoneon, composer and amphibian worlds of jazz and classical Richard Galliano is currently the only accordionist with a recording contract with the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label. In the series Echoes of JazzFestBrno play Nov. 16 in the Fellowship House.
Richard Galliano has recorded more than 50 albums under his own name and has collaborated with a number of outstanding artists from various genres. Piano accordion and began to learn the age of four from his father, accordionist and teacher Lucien Galliano. He continued at the Conservatory of Nice under the guidance of the famous educator Pierre Cochereau and alongside instrumental skills are dealt with in depth harmony, counterpoint, and even learned to play the trombone. In 1975, at a time when he settled in Paris, he met with Claude Nougaro and became his accordionist and artistic director of the orchestra in the period up to 1983. In 1980, he met with other formative personalities, Astor Piazzolla, who inspired him to create New French Musette same way Piazzolla himself invented the New Argentine Tango. During career he worked with the most distinguished jazz, chanson, classical and world music. There is among them George Mraz, Brigitte Fontaine, Charles Aznavour, Trilok Gurtu and Wynton Marsalis.
