Capek's memorial on Strži opens a new exhibit

Josefa Sudka eyes

The big attraction in a new exhibition certainly include the reproduction of previously little-known photographs Josefa Sudka. Karel Čapek (January 9, 1890 - December 25, 1938)

Czech writer, intellectual, journalist, playwright, translator and photographer born in Male Svatonovice family doctor Antonína Čapka. After secondary school completed in 1915, he studied at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague and received his doctorate. For his illness he was not drafted into the army and did not fight in World War I, but he was very affected by this war.
He worked as an editor in the magazine National Newspaper, and Nebojsa Lidove noviny. He was dramaturge and director Vinohrady Theater and also the first chairman of the Czech PEN club.
In 1935 the Town Hall Vineyards married to actress and longtime girlfriend Olga Scheinpflugová. The last three years of his life in Strži at Stara Hut near Dobris, where it is located Čapek Memorial. He died of pulmonary edema a few months before his arrest by the Gestapo. Seven times nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1932 to, 1938.
In 1995 Karel Capek was posthumously awarded the Order of TG Masaryk and this, together with his brother Josef awarded the title of Knight of Czech culture.
