On hot days, more and more people use air conditioning, oblivious to other alternatives

On hot days, more and more people use air conditioning, oblivious to other alternatives Last year was, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric warmest year in Europe over the last 500 years. This year will be no different. Between January and April 2015 was in fact the global average record warm. The Czech Republic is therefore no longer worth investing in technologies that were previously only widely used in coastal areas.

Among the most widespread technologies include air conditioning, which are part of cars, offices as well as homes. Yet their misuse can cause a variety of problems. But people forget about the other alternatives that make it possible to effectively prevent the hot days.

2014 was the warmest year since 1880. The record was warm months of May, June, August, September, October and December. This follows from the analysis of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, according to last year was the warmest in Europe over the last 500 years. So far, 2007 has been a record year thus exceeded by 0.3 degrees Celsius. The Czech Republic was also measured deviation of 2.0 ° C compared to the average of 1961-1990. Since the period January-April 2015 was a record warm global average, and experts expect this warming trend. It encourages technological innovation, which are used in the Czech Republic in a growing number of devices, such as air conditioning systems and refrigeration.

Now conditioning and refrigeration systems in the Czech Republic not only widely used in automobiles, offices, shops, but also in homes. However, improper use can cause health problems, which are usually manifested by fatigue, respiratory infections, headaches and backaches or burning eyes. "If you have air conditioning set at a temperature of more than 5 degrees lower than the outside temperature, then for many people crossing between the cold air in a confined space and outdoor warmer environment may pose an increased risk of respiratory disease. It does not matter when matter if it concerns a car or office. Especially if transitions are fast and frequent and very large temperature difference, "said Ivana Holcátová from the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology 1st Faculty of Medicine.

Air conditioning and refrigeration systems, however, are, according to experts in the sector, where it is increasingly possible to use alternative solutions. One of them is the effective use of elements of outdoor shading techniques, which has a long tradition in this country. "Roller blinds and outdoor blinds were seen mainly as an aesthetic addition, their strong influence on the energy balance of the building, and the ability to reduce cooling costs, few people realized "said Lubomír Valenta of company Lomax, who is in the country focuses on the production of shielding technology." Blinds and shutters yet able to fully replace air conditioning. Automatically controlled outdoor shading technology can reduce the temperature in the house until about 9 ° C. This means that in the summer to save money issued for the operation of air conditioning, but also set conditions innate to human beings, "said Valenta.

In addition to elements of outdoor shading techniques represent a seaside destinations other alternative to traditional approaches, thus cooling the air cooling systems using heat transfer to seawater. The main advantages of this type include lower cooling sea water temperature in comparison with the air temperature and the superior properties of water as a heat transfer medium. When compared with air cooling may be here energy saving of approximately 50%.
