Road Safety: "We are?"

Road Safety: "We are?" BESIP sends a clear message: "Be seen!" In the fourth year Signalfestivalu tried to highlight the importance of using reflective elements and show a new trend visibility of pedestrians. At the Fruit Market in Prague for four days literally lit up human beings ...

BESIP support of the "Road 1" Europe 2 prepare exposure to the Fruit Market in Prague, which was built reflective elements from their use on clothes to the increasingly popular reflective tape. The attractive part of the exhibition, a sort of glimpse into the future, was the use of active light clothing.
Because it was a festival of light, also he showed BESIP future visibility of pedestrians. He teamed up with the Technical University in Liberec, where unique patented nanotechnology to illuminate a variety of items, including clothing. While others lit a variety of objects, presentation BESIP enlighten people and mannequins in shining clothes.

February 20 of this year, an amendment to the Act which clearly stipulates the obligation of pedestrians outside the village wear for reduced visibility reflective elements which are visible to other road users, ie the front, from behind and from the side. In this chilly period, it should be noted that the reduced visibility is not only the period from sunset after his exit, but the fog, heavy rain or snow, thus reflective elements are required under these conditions, even in the daytime.

Abroad reflective elements already saved many lives

Foreign experience shows that the reflective elements may, in poor visibility reduce the participation of pedestrians on the fatal accident to ten times. In other words, 10% of pedestrians should survive, cyclists and this percentage is even higher - up to 30% on bike riders could live if it was sufficiently visible. That is why it is very important that pedestrians and cyclists using reflective elements that clearly will increase road safety.

That such elements are justified, they know, for example, in Estonia. While there were in 1999 killed 47 pedestrians in 2010, only seven! Certainly contributed to the fact that this country was legalized required to wear reflective materials at reduced visibility. Since 2011, Estonia has even required to wear reflective elements, even when moving at reduced visibility in the village. Estonia is not the only one in Europe. This obligation applies, for example, pedestrians in the Scandinavian countries, Spain or at our neighbors in Slovak.

Colorful clothes and reflective elements!

It is proven that if communication moves a man who is wearing a dark blue dress, for example, the driver can record it at a distance of 18 meters. The better it is for example already with yellow clothes, when the pedestrian is detected at a distance of 37 meters in a white driver then sees him at 55 meters. But even this distance is not in the night safe avoidance pedestrians sufficient. Pedestrians should therefore always have on my clothes any element that is more visible. We have for instance fluorescent materials - they increase visibility in daylight and at dusk, in the dark, however, lose their function. The most frequently used colors are bright yellow, green and orange. More preferred is the use of reflective materials - they reflect light in a narrow cone back to the source, up to a distance of around 200 m. Thus significantly increasing the visibility at night and in poor visibility. The reflective material is visible at night to 3x greater distance than white clothing and more than 10 times more distance than blue dress.

Items of reflective material is best placed close to the knees, wrists and waist level. It is important, if we need just one reflective tape to have it on the side towards the road and not have it somewhere under your clothes, but visible from all sides. Children then we can buy clothes that are already equipped with elements of reflective materials as well as the steps already equipped and schoolbags.

It is important to bear in mind that at a speed of 75 km / h driver needs at least 1.5 seconds for it to realize the danger and accordingly reacted - in that time traveled 1 m 3. And it starts with their own vyhýbacím maneuver, traveled by pedestrians sighting more than 150 meters. On this rather simple operation, which is happening on the roads every day countless, so a driver needs about 200 meters. And at such a distance pedestrians can be seen only when wearing reflective accessories.
