It should be first aid training part of the curriculum in schools?

As if this is no exaggeration vital topic lost somewhere in the drawers responsible people under the burden of timely issues. Only remain unsolved, unanswered questions. And in many ways disturbing.

A few decades ago it was not what teaching first aid is concerned, much to deal with. Subject called military training taught by among others former generations also provide basic assistance with various types of injuries and accidents. The quality of these "expert" information is perhaps in retrospect somewhat questionable, but more important was the blanket coverage - no child figures stabilized position or makeshift splints from prkýnek missed. But the military training of school curriculum long ago disappeared and educate schoolchildren about the first aid was a slight chaos.

No guarantee of quality

Today applicable legislation stipulates the obligation of schools to educate pupils in first aid, but there are no specific standards or recommendations that teachers should hold. Those so as largely from the medical perspective of the laity, must rely on the various manuals and their own knowledge. Sami cantors often accorded a high degree of uncertainty regarding the transmitted precepts - available publications and instruction in specific procedures often differ in their various errors, complexity, contradictions and misleading information. For teaching first aid at schools simply does not exist at present in terms of content, scope and repetition of a single program.

Dr. expert opinion. Petra fawn, MBA (Director, Emergency Medical Service hl. M. Prahy):
I think that first aid training would have to return to school. The question is the extent and professionalism. Courses should first be accredited by the Ministry of Education, approved by the Ministry of Health. This certification should be preceded by expert discussions about the range. We should not frighten children with blood and death. We should teach them especially safe behavior in crisis situations, corresponding to the age group. The basis of the personal protection and security of on-site events and the ability to call for emergency help. I leaflets, manuals and brochures, mobile apps that will keep the kids together. I am in favor of including a short briefing on first aid and risks before the start of the game or any sports activity. Teach children to prepare in a team scenario in case of injury or sudden health disorders. Let us teach them their security and their classmates. Minimize equipment with which they will be able to work, and the minimum is let us learn to work routinely.

The accident is no coincidence, as is well known, and if it is ready to rescue scenario, the arrival of the components integrated IRS efficient. Knowledge of first aid is not just about helping themselves, but also about knowing where to play, where I was, which way to reach me, "ambulance", having a charged cell phone in the mountains, carry a first aid kit, etc. Let But the children of their childhood and do not build them into adult roles. Our operators can help over the phone and calling to support a child or an adult until the arrival of the IRS components.

Does it make any sense?

Many a man then she may wonder if such a learning-ignorant no sense at all that then lay the "savior" could do about it more harm than good. For teachers, although he wants erudite interpretation activities and procedures that could save the health or even life, to educate themselves in this direction but must themselves - either by self or by completing a variety of seminars, lectures and courses. The question is, how ever, and how well the information is actually given to pupils and whether it would in practice were not applicable. Experts from the ranks of doctors and paramedics but argues that teaching first aid would be in the curricula of primary and secondary schools had officially return, however, covered and guaranteed by professionals. In its current form, the framework is indeed established, but fulfillment and realization is only at specific schools, the teaching of first aid chaotic and largely inadequate.

Better access, more lives saved?

Dissatisfaction is thus one could say on all sides. Some schools are quite lax, others force their teachers to give lectures on matters about which not much they do not know and where you even when no amount of effort are "confident in their shoes." Doctors again appeal to the professional and general public with the fact that the number of accidents, injuries and health-threatening conditions are not falling, quite the contrary - every rapid intervention or a helping hand from the right way, then it fits. Also, the greater part of parents and students would return to teaching first aid to schools welcomed. However, not only as a dry theory. Part of the teaching should definitely be practical demonstrations and drills. Because only the timely and proper first aid demonstrably reduces the risk of death and permanent disability. But opponents argue that it's just deleting hours of other subjects that pupils and students well into the future will remember only the minimum and saving health that simply belongs only to professionals ...

On the decision to wait

So the question remains, who will open a meaningful discussion, listens to the views of all concerned and try to reach a final decision - that is, whether to restore teaching first aid to schools. But when we say not as a compulsory subject, then at least with a higher status than it has today. A particularly compact, successive whole certified experts.

Expert opinion Mgr. Jitka Jeklová (Psychological counseling Brno)
The introduction of compulsory education is a matter for the Ministry and subsequently schools, but in my opinion, would be fully sufficient for better integration into any already subject to be taught, as often happens today. Bandage and fix the arm or leg should master and scholar of First Instance. Just like to know the most important thing is to keep calm (ie nezmatkovat) and try to call help by phone or to reach the nearest adult. Whatever the explanation and teaching children but they should act accordingly to their age. Easier and even then very happy to take the new information.
This also applies to any compulsory first aid education. Beginning would of course be important telephone numbers. It really can teach it from kindergarten, as well as the basics of dressing type or stopping bleeding. Younger children can make good use of color images, and especially practical training. However, instructional videos, which can sometimes cause quite drastically, I would advise to use until around the onset of puberty. Younger children might be frightened unnecessarily. The space should be found for a sufficient explanation of the theory and practical demonstrations, training should be conducted in an entertaining and attractive form. However, it should be evaluated to avoid becoming just another stressor our children.
